The exhibitions on display at Ruthin Gaol, house of correction since the 17th century, cover every aspect of life behind bars:
the prison’s early history, catering for convicts, hard labour, the treadmill and padded cells. And give a really thorough insight into social history and crime and punishment. It’s gruelling stuff, but there’s a café within walking distance for a nice cup of tea afterwards!
