Charles TunnicliffeArtist, engraver and book illustrator Charles Tunnicliffe was born in Langley, East Cheshire.

He moved to Shorelands in Malltraeth on Anglesey in 1947, where he observed, sketched and painted the seabirds, wildlife and unspoilt landscape – especially around Cob Lake, the Cefni Estuary, South Stack Cliffs, Llŷn Coron, Aberfraw, Cemlyn. He become a Royal Academician in 1954, was awarded an RSPB Gold Medal in 1975 and was honoured with an OBE in 1978. A huge collection of his work, including drawings, watercolours, and sketchbooks (works of art in their own right), is on permanent show at Oriel Ynys Môn.
